About the Author

Okeoghene Odudu is a Lecturer in Competition law at King's College London, where he teaches US Antitrust, EC State Aid and State Regulation Law, EC and UK Competition Law, and EU Law. Odudu read law as an undergraduate at Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge, and received an MA in Criminology from Keele University. He was a graduate student at Keble College, Oxford, where he competed a DPhil. He was awarded a Kennedy Scholarship and spent a year at Harvard conducting research in US antitrust. After being awarded a DPhil in law from Oxford University Odudu was elected Fellow in law at Downing College, Cambridge where he taught EU and Administrative law.

Not a werewolf, but a wendigo tale

The horror/ sci-fi genre has gotten stuck on certain supernatural elements, such as vampires and werewolves. This book is a refreshing departure from the same old stuff. I had never read a book about a wendigo, a legendary Native American shape-shifting creature. Not only was the book a page turner, it was scary! I wish there were a lot more books like this.

I love this book! The horror/sci-fi genre has gotten stuck on certain elements of the supernatural, such as vampires and werewolves. This book is a creative departure from the same old stuff. I have never read a book about a wendigo, a legendary Native American shape-shifting creature. Not only is it a page turner, it's scary. I wish there were a lot more books like this.

I read this book about 8 years ago. It was the only book that has ever given me nightmares (and I mean bad ones). I borrowed it to someone and forgot who and it was never returned. I coundn't for the life of me remember the name of it only the picture on the front cover. I have spent 8 years searching and finally found it again. If you like truely scary stuff...don't let this one pass you by. You will remember it for a long time!

Awesome book for Buddhists and Non-Buddhists alike

Becoming Enlightened was written by the Dalai Lama, translated into English by Jeffrey Hopkins. If there was ever an "expert" on becoming enlightened, the Dalai Lama would be it! It is pretty amazing in this modern world that the entire world can easily get access to and read a book by a head of a giant religious group like this - and that the book is enjoyable!

I usually take notes when I read books, and I took a TON of notes while reading Becoming Enlightened. This is definitely a helpful book for all people to read, not just Buddhists. First, it's always good to understand what people of a certain group believe in, no matter what that group is. Second, most of the tips are simply about living a content, stress-free life. That is something that all of us are striving towards!

Interestingly, the book explicitly says that ALL religions are valid and each is suited well for a different group of people. It says Buddhists should never go around trying to "convert" others. Buddhism is not "better" than other religions. Each religion is a path, each one promotes peace, compassion and charity.

The book goes step by step through a number of ideas to improve your life. You should make sure you are spending time on *important* things. Time is precious, don't waste it by hurrying to do thing you really don't have in your priority list. Cherish others, strive not to harm anyone or any sentient creature.

You should try to bring under control your lust for objects and people. Our modern society hypes us to want more and more. Instead, learn to be content with what you have, to appreciate what you already own. Try to calm your angry feelings about things and people you find unpleasant. Instead, find ways to accept the way they are, to tolerate them. Always strive to learn, to grow your horizons.

The book suggests you try to meditate daily, to give yourself some calm, quiet time. Focus on appreciating yourself and others. People pray all the time for more money, for a nicer body - but rarely do they simply focus on being content NOW. In fact, if people relaxed and were content with they had now, they would be healthier and happier now.

I really found this quote powerful - "appreciate how rare and full of potential your situation is in this world, take joy in it, and use it to your best advantage." Half of the world lives in abject poverty and barely has enough food to survive the day. If you have access to a computer and running water, you are way ahead of the game!

To help you focus, the book lays out, in order of severity, the list of activities to wean yourself off of. These start with killing, then go into stealing, sexual misconduct, lying, divisive talk, harsh speech, senseless chatter, covetousness, harmful intent, and finally wrong views.

The book provides great summaries at the end of every chapter to help you review what was said. I liked one of the meditation exercises. You start by focusing on yourself - sending yourself love, acceptance and joy. Do that for a few sessions. Then at the next session you think about your best friend - send her those waves of love. After a few more sessions move on to other best friends. Slowly work your way outwards until you are sending love to the whole world, and relaxing in the quiet sensation. It really will affect how you relate to others!

Finally, Enlightenment Made Attainable

I've been reading and studying Eastern ideas for 30 years now and I have to say that this book is in the top 3 that I have ever read. The sometimes difficult and nebulous ideas of Cessation, Karma and Nirvana are made to be within practical reach.

Practical Buddhism for the West from a traditonal teacher

His Holiness the Dalai Lama offers a wonderful practical guide to becoming enlightened that if followed may not actually lead to enlightenment but would most assuredly lead to a much better world. The Dalai Lama's method of listing and sub-listing all of the required steps may seem a little compartmental at first and somewhat anti-Buddhist (at least to a Westerner) but really this method is how such doctrines (or sutras) were orally communicated through many generations. And it is with a feeling of honor and respect that I read this book, as if a new sutra (albeit a copyrighted sutra) had been penned for all Buddhists to incorporate into their daily contemplation and study. If you are just beginning your study of Buddhism, this book will state much, explain some, and leave much unexplained, for Buddhism is really quite unexplainable, filled with rich dialogue and seeming contradictions, a forever journey in our own limited time and space. To help explain this concept further I highly recommend "Buddhism The Religion Of No-Religion" by Alan Watts. On the other hand, it you are seeking ideas to support your positive personal efforts, His Holiness the Dalai Lama offers sound, helpful and genuine advice from a Tibetan Buddhist perspective.

A Must Have

Tumblr for Dummies is a terrific book for anyone interested in starting or maintaining a Tumblr account. The book walks the reader through the steps of setting up a new account by offering tidbits, facts, and suggestions that are essential to the Tumblr user.
As the book progresses, it explores all sorts of information useful to anyone from beginner status to a seasoned pro, making this book a handy reference guide. The book can be read either cover-to-cover or by going directly to a specific chapter of interest.
I am new to Tumblr and Tumblr for Dummies made it easy for me to set up a new account. The book gives information that is not available by simply following sign-up instructions on the Tumblr website. Using the book, I liked the fact that I was not only following the steps, but I was also learning all of the capabilities associated with each step.
Tumblr for Dummies offers a much more in-depth look at Tumblr while keeping things simple. The author, Sue Jenkins, writes in a clear manner and covers all the bases. It is as if she is sitting beside you guiding you through each step. Jenkins addresses every topic imaginable leaving the reader with not one unanswered question. While the book is quite thorough, it is equally as concise. There are no unnecessary segments or long-winded explanations. Topics are presented very clearly and the book is full of visual examples as well.
In Chapter 10, Ten Useful Third-Party Apps for Tumblr, it is obvious that Jenkins knows her stuff as she presents useful information about getting more out of your Tumblr account through the use of apps. This chapter was of particular interest to me because I had little knowledge of the apps and would probably still be in the dark if not for this book.
I cannot stress enough how useful this book is to a Tumblr user. Whether you are a novice or a pro, you will not be disappointed. Tumblr for Dummies truly is a must-have.

Not too useful for average non-techy person

Much of what a noncommercial user wants to know how to do on tumblr is hard to find in this book --and since i bought the online kindle version from Amazon, the diagrams of the symbols (for ex figure1-3) were so tiny as to be impossible to see and didnt match where they were on tumblr for kindle or iphone. Then they would use these figures with their miniscule and baffling symbols in explaining how to make a change to your tumblr.

The one positive was: It took you pretty smoothly thru the steps if you were just installing your tumblr account for the first time if you were using a PC. but as far as making simple changes on an existing account it was a labyrinth of confusion.
All i wanted to know was how to change my avatar and how to change the order of the images I've posted. I finally found the first answer after much searching. The second question i still havent found. Now Im trying to get rid of an irritating "theme" and go back to "Untitled" status where i started from and i havent found out how to do that either.

Much of the book is not designed for real dummies like me but for amateur web site designers --it is full of jargon --terms like CSS, domains and url that is baffling to me. I didnt find the tips that helpful either. because they referred back to the figures that are impossible to see or to the symbols that are not in the same place on my kindle.
This book may be very helpful to someone who is already familiar with the tumblr language but for me I found more answers by just typing my question written in ordinary English onto my PC browser and then googling it up than what i found trying to use this book.

I only ordered this book because I was told I have to have it. Most of the time I find the books to be cheaper on Amazon than with the school or their book stores. Make sure you shop before using the schools to obtain the materials you need to complete your courses. This is a college book that I had to order to fulfill my class work. The book provided the information I needed to complete the entire task assigned by the facilitator. To most people there will be nothing special about this book. And I would imagine that if you are buying this book you are not doing so out of fun. Good luck in your future courses and positions. May all your classes bring you much knowledge.

Terrorism and its history

This book is a terrific intro to terrorism and its history, but more than that it really depends on what you hope to achieve by reading this book. If this book has been assigned by a professor, you are on your way to a fundamental understanding of terrorism and its consequences, root causes, etc. If you are reading this book for leisure, with no lecture/seminar accompanying it, then it is a good read but not as worthwhile. I would recommend books by the pre-eminent scholars of terrorism like Bruce Hoffman, and his mentor Walter Lacquer.
