Decent read if you get it for free and don't mind frustration trying to get through it

This book was a hard read. It jumped from place to place, person to person, day to night… was so hard to get through. I at one point after reading and rereading paragraphs screamed out loud at the book in frustration. A lot of things don't make sense but after you get through half of the book and kind of catch on to the lack of rhythm it is a decent enough story. In the credits she thanks some of the best authors I have read for helping her and I find it hard to believe they would read this and not let her know the confusion the book had to it. Her fist book in this series was not as hard to get through but was still confusing at parts. I struggled through both of these even though enjoying the storyline and am really having a hard time convincing myself to read the next one… I may try to read the 5th one next about her brother Kinnion. MAYBE. Seems by reading the summaries they may be written out of order as the next jumps 9 years in the future for their daughter.

But if you get this book for free and don't mind getting a bit frustrated finagling your way through it then I would go ahead and read it. A warning though… I have now read several books from this author and not just this series… she has a tendency to end her books abruptly and leaving you unfulfilled.

In Ms. MacRae's second offering, she tells the story of Ranald, the brother of her first book's hero. The conflict between the hero and heroine leaps off the page from the first chapter and continues throughout. The action and suspense is continuous, making this book tough to put down. The ending is satisfying and the secondary characters, a specialty of Ms. MacRae's, make the story more entertaining and vibrant. Her knowledge of the history of this time period adds authenticity to the tale. I thoroughly enjoyed this read and look forward to her next installment.

Problems in the highlands

Ranald the hero is sent by the King Robert of Scotland, at the request of Laird Macrory who is dying, to secure the Macory clan’s castle and marry the laird’s daughter. A marriage that is not well received by all concerned as Ranald is not of the clan.

Riona is the heroine, who has been allowed to learn about the workings of the clan and weapons by an indulgent father. Her brother has gone off to fight the English in France and is believed dead. She now becomes a pawn among the clans of the area who want to take control of the castle. When Ranald arrives he has grown into a man from the boy who used to visit on occasion and torment her life.

A story of intrigue, secrets, fighting, and love. This book keeps you wondering what is going to happen next and how the characters are going to react. They are multidimensional individuals who make mistakes in the action of the moment but then ask for forgiveness. The entwining of Riona and Ranald’s past with their present and the problems they encounter keeps you interested throughout the book.

The content is entertaining. The writing is horrendous. Needs a professional proofreader.

If you've read "The Game" by Neil Strauss, you might be tempted to read this because of the title. Let me assure you, This is as much "Beyond the Game" as Olive Garden is "Beyond Italian".

The story is entertaining, yes. I've met both Aukeyto and Arash in person and have taken bootcamps. Both men are super cool, down to earth and very knowledgeable. With that said, this review is about this BOOK and it's quality -- any rational person should be able to understand that this review is an objective analysis of this book and not the temperament of the author(s).

I contacted Aukeyto personally to tell him the same thing, but he refused to listen and took my criticism personally (how Ironic, for someone who's adamant about not taking things personally) and insulted me. Which is fine, so here is my criticism on Amazon, accessible to a global audience instead.

The content of the book is entertaining, but the writing is BEYOND POOR. There is zero cohesion and the entire book is rife with elementary grammatical errors EVERYWHERE. It is clear that Mr. Mosley didn't even hire a competent proofreader/copy editor before putting his name on a book and releasing it to the world. My head was spinning throughout the entire book from the grammar problems.

I can barely get myself to call this a book.

In deciding whether or not to buy this book, I compared it to all the things I would otherwise spend my money on such as a 24 pack of delicious craft beers. I decided buying a book would be healthier for my mind and that, at worst, I would have a valuable piece of work to put on my shelf next to my other books. Boy was I wrong.

This book is absolute trash. For $25 you get a book the length of an ambitious blog post (you could finish reading it in between reading other, better books, for example). I tried but literally could not get myself to finish. As a previous reviewer stated, the writing is horrendous: "This happened...and then I went here...and then I talked to this girl....and then I went there....and then I did this..." That is what the entire book reads like. No structure, no build-up, no vision, no conception of what makes good writing.

Sprinkled in there are little nuggets of wisdom by Arash (Aukeyto's teacher), and they are somewhat insightful, but there are few and far between. Every once in a while you get some useful tips (e.g. keeping a shopping bag in your car so that you can game at the mall; smiling when you talk to friends so that girls know that you're emotionally healthy) but, again, the value is so sparse in this book it's maddening. I wouldn't even consider putting this book on the same shelf as my other books so as to not offend my other books.

Ultimately, I decided to return this book and write a review as a fair warning to all potential buyers. It takes a certain type of person to find this content intriguing (even acceptable), and frankly I am insulted that this even exists as a product.

One man's real quest to get better with women

If you have read books like, "The Game" or "8 Ball", you think that picking up women is easy.

WRONG

It takes a lot of interactions and sorting out which Aukeyto shows. It also shows his journey with his mentor Arash. He has a regular day job and does pickup in his off-time unlike most of the pickup books out there. It's a slow process, but he shows you that he can make it work. No really crazy party stories though, was hoping for that. In the end, he does get girls, but the sex scene is anticlimatic and has no juicy details. He talks about the other seduction coaches but doesn't give too much of an opinion of them. I was hoping for more drama and excitement which is why I didn't give 5 stars. I do hope Aukeyto continues writing as he has potential and comes out with a part 2 when he gains more knowledge and skills as he is a rising star.

That being said, this book is a good read if you want to get better with women, see how a pickup bootcamp works, and see how pickup/self improvement can possibly change your life for better in the long run. Everyone's journey in game/life is different and this is just one take of it.

Good illustrations and techniques but bad recipes

My husband is a chef and I bought this for his use and for me to learn more about food presentation. The book's techniques for decoration and the illustrations are very good and helpful. They provide a lot of information and helped me imagine more and better ways to present the food. I would have rated this book higher but the recipes that are provided are wrong in many cases .

We first noticed a problem when we were making the fruit in jelly dessert on page 101. My husband said it looked like it called for too much gelatin for the amount of liquid. He did some calculations on the quantities and was sure this was the case. We went ahead and followed the recipe to the letter and the jelly turned out extremely hard. Even cutting the amount of gelatin to half was still too much.

We then made the tuile paste from page 162. When we baked it it turned into a runny, unusable mess. My husband then started going through several of the recipes and noticed more errors. For example, on page 164 the red bell pepper sauce recomends running it through a sieve withou mentioning the need to puree the ingredients first.

I am lucky to have a professional chef in the house otherwise I would have been very frustrated trying to make the recipes and having them turn out "wrong" when in reality it is the book that has the errors.

The book is still very useful but if you are not very experienced in the kitchen the errors may prove difficult to identify and overcome.

Great for beginners, better for teaching

I'm a Chef and culinary mentor in NYC, so I bought this book to help with showing students different kinds of plating, I have to admit for the price I expected more, and to be honest, if I saw this book in the store I would have never bought it. Why? Because it feels strongly dated, at an age where everything is wow factor, art work plating, this is more of the first step techniques book....

With that said, I first hated this book but then I realized that it was beyond perfect for what I needed it for, for helping students whom I am mentoring learn the basic steps for learning these steps.

So in the end, it helped me more than I expected, and it gave me amazing flashbacks of when I first started learning the basics of the steps of plating.

This book breaks down many steps of plating, from plating with fruit, to veggies, it teaches you many things that you will love to learn.

So if you are first starting out with plating or looking for a book where you not only can learn but also teach these steps, you found it here...

However, if you are an expert at plating and looking for a book to enhance your perfection, this isn't the book for you, this book is for beginners or for those after the beginning stage.

This book is more of an inspiration book than anything

When I bought this book, I was hoping for more theory and concepts on how to make food look great, with some examples to back up the concepts. It was the reverse: It had a TON of examples (which are beautiful by the way), but very little theory. I felt a bit misled buying the book, but I'm sure other people might prefer how it was done.

Pros:
TONS of pictures
TONS of examples and techniques

Cons:
The book is kind of small, which makes the gorgeous images small.
Not much theory on presentation
The organization of the book could be better.
