Rick and Heather Dillender are the owners of A Fresh Perspective Dog Training in Albuquerque, NM. They specialize in canine behavioral rehabilitation and Service Dog training and have developed a guided self-training Service Dog program that is effective for many different disabilities. They also run an Instructor Training Program certifying others to train using their proprietary methods.

NOT an authoritative publication on PTSD Service Dogs

As mentioned in other reviews you'll have to look past the many typos, duplicate words and incorrect grammar to read this book (with no index). I've trained PTSD Service Dogs for ten years and disagree with many of their leaping assumptions about dogs w no research backup. Their references to "a dog" as an "it" belies the intimate relationship between one's service dog and one's self.
A hallmark of PTSD is flashbacks while sleeping, and authors mandate not allowing the svc dog in the bed? PTSD sufferers indeed have personal space issues, and authors mandate not allowing the dog in front of you? The authors suggest an extendable leash? Yikes! Those are some of the most dangerous tools any dog handler can use.

If you can get past the terrible grammar and improper use of countless words

If you can get past the terrible grammar and improper use of countless words, you will find some good information about PTSD and how service dogs can help. I would have liked to have more information about the specific training areas with service dogs, especially socialization and desensitization in public places and less about basic obedience.

This book is full of wonderful information about dog behavior

This book is full of wonderful information about dog behavior, PTSD, and the kind of behaviors a PTSD dog should be expected to perform. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars, I expected the training info to be a little more specific on how to encourage the behaviors a PTSD dog should have. It tells what they should do perfectly, a little more practical application information would be appreciated.
