Very good...well organzied.

An excellent text it basically gives you everything you need to know about manual muscle testing (MMT) and cranial nerve testing. A great thing about this text is that it has a DVD that shows certain MMT so you can better understand how to perform the tests. The text also isolates and identifies what muscles are being tested as well as the nerves being test. I find that very useful. It has tables with normative values as well.

Muscle Testing for Functional Neurological Examination...superb!

Dr. Reese's third edition of her growingly influential textbook on neuromusculoskeletal evaluation does not disappoint! The scholarship she deploys to demonstrate the reliability and validity of various systems of muscle testing is among the best now available on the market. Hundreds of anatomical drawings and muscle assessment photographs make the book invaluable for quick learning of the techniques she presents.
Over 100 studies related to the manual muscle test (MMT) are presented, including studies on the clinical efficacy of MMT in the diagnosis of patients with symptomatology. The operational definitions of the MMT are presented, and detailed instructions on avoiding the commonest errors of the MMT are described. The reader comes away from this book knowing the science and the art of effective, accurate, reliable and repeatable MMT.
The book shows that there is evidence for good reliability and validity in the use of MMT for patients with neuromusculoskeletal dysfunction. The observational cohort studies demonstrated good external and internal validity, and over a dozen randomized controlled trials (RCTs) are reviewed showing that MMT findings are not dependent upon examiner bias. The inter- and intra-examiner reliability studies as well as the construct, content, concurrent and predictive validity studies showed the clinical and predictive value of the MMT.
The MMT employed by chiropractors, physical therapists, manual physicians and neurologists is shown in this impressive text to be a clinically useful tool. The examination of patients with non-musculoskeletal (visceral or organic disorders) is also described and shown to be a potentially promising venue for future research. The DVD included with the book makes the methods of evaluation even more persuasive and clear.
Highly recommended textbook and useful for anyone (scientist, clinical researchers, as well as lay people) using the muscle system as part of their diagnostic method.

Used it all the time

The pictures are beyond helpful. They aren't colorings or drawings, but actual PHOTOGRAPHS of how we're supposed to be testing. Very easy to read and summarizes the most important tips at the very beginnings (i.e. what normal ROM is, where we should be placing instruments, etc). HIghly recommend this product.
